Vitrectomy Cost in India: Bleed, Membrane, Infection — Different Bills
Vitrectomy cost in India depends on why the jelly has to come out — diabetic bleed, macular membrane, detachment or infection. Emergency band from the private-market table; planned cases quoted after the view.

Vitrectomy cost in India is the search after someone said “we need to clear the jelly.” Vitrectomy is surgery to remove the vitreous — blood, membranes, infection, or the traction that is lifting retina. It is not LASIK. It is not a drop. Families hear one number on the phone because a neighbour had “the same operation.” The indication was not the same.
India private-market emergency vitrectomy for serious infection sits around ₹80,000–2,00,000 in the remaining-treatments table — a pattern, not a ReliveCure quote. Planned vitrectomy for diabetic bleed, macular hole or epiretinal membrane: we do not invent a rupee. Exact figure after we have seen the eye. You come to ReliveCure in Gurugram, Hyderabad, Pune or Mumbai.
The clinical forks: diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment symptoms, macular hole and ERM, endophthalmitis. Cover sits under eye surgery insurance in India.
What you are actually paying for
A sterile theatre, a view inside the eye, removal of vitreous, and whatever else the retina needs in the same sitting — laser to a tear, a gas or oil bubble, peeling a membrane. Tamponade changes aftercare: head position, flying, a possible second sitting to remove oil. That is why two “vitrectomy” estimates diverge.
Not every bleed needs vitrectomy this month. A haemorrhage that is already clearing, or swelling that still responds to injections, may wait. A macular hole has its own clock. Infection is treat-first, bill-second.
What changes the bill
| Item | India private-market / pattern | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Emergency vitrectomy (infection table) | ₹80,000–2,00,000 | Endophthalmitis / serious infection source — not a DR package |
| Intravitreal antibiotic | ₹15,000–40,000 | Same source; day care or part of admission |
| Planned DR / macular vitrectomy | Quoted after the view | No invented rupee on this URL |
| Gas vs oil, peel vs no peel | Moves recovery and possible second sitting | Clinical, not a menu |
| OPD OCT the same week | Often extra | OPD unless rider |
Do not use the emergency band as a shopping price for an elective membrane. Different clock, different risk, different consent.
Will insurance take vitrectomy?
Usually yes when the notes show medical necessity — non-clearing blood, traction, a hole that needs surgery, infection. Day care versus a bed is not the test. Day care eye surgery insurance explains that myth.
Cashless option also available. May not be as well — depends on the personal case. We check at evaluation.
Documents: indication, what was done, tamponade if any. Not “elective vitreous package.”
Call today versus a planned slot
Same day: curtain, dense bleed in the better-seeing eye, pain and falling vision after a recent injection or cataract. Call +91 96500 23161. We do not book open-globe repair as a product from a blog.
Booked evaluation: a membrane already diagnosed, a bleed that is slowly clearing, a second opinion before theatre.
A banner “vitrectomy package” without an indication is how families pay twice: once for the wrong sitting, once for the right one. Bring old fundus photos, the injection card if you have had anti-VEGF or steroid shots, and any ultrasound already done when the view was too cloudy. We still look ourselves. We do not reuse a neighbour’s bill.
If the only remaining clear eye is the one filling with blood, say that on the call. Time matters more than a cost page. If this is a macular membrane with slowly falling reading vision, the clock is weeks, not hours — still not a reason to skip dilation.
