Optic Nerve Sheath Fenestration: A Sight-Saving Window, Not a Tumour Ad

Optic nerve sheath fenestration is a window in the nerve sheath, usually after IIH or papilledema when fields are failing. ReliveCure maps discs first — we do not sell neurosurgery as a package.

ReliveCure navy-and-cyan editorial still: Optic Nerve Sheath Fenestration: A Sight-Saving Window, Not a Tumour Ad

Optic nerve sheath fenestration is a small window in the covering of the optic nerve so pressure around that nerve can drop. People search it after idiopathic intracranial hypertension, after both discs were called swollen on papilledema, or after a lumbar puncture conversation they were not ready for. It is sight-saving when the map is honest. It is not a brain-tumour advert. It is not a ReliveCure package from this URL.

ReliveCure looks at discs and fields in Gurugram, Hyderabad, Pune or Mumbai. If a field just blacked out, both discs are new, or a headache with vomiting started today, call +91 96500 23161. A third-nerve story with a dilated pupil is a different emergency — third nerve palsy — not this operation.

What fenestration is for

The optic nerve sits in a sheath. When cerebrospinal fluid pressure stays high, that sheath can strangle the nerve head. Fenestration lets fluid out locally. It is one tool after weight, medicines, and a documented pressure story. It is not the first Google of “swollen disc.”

Optic neuritis is usually one eye, pain on movement, a different workup. Ischaemic optic neuropathy sits in older vascular patients. Fenestration is the IIH / papilledema conversation when fields are slipping despite the medical plan.

We do not print drug doses. We do not name a theatre brand. Screening first.

Young women with headaches, pulse-synchronous tinnitus, and brief blackouts are the usual IIH search. Obesity is common on the file; it is not a punchline. Fields can shrink quietly while the disc still looks swollen. Fenestration is for the nerve that is losing field despite the medical plan — not for a headache that has not been mapped.

What has to sit on the file before anyone talks theatre

Disc photographs. Automated visual fields you can repeat. Often MRI, often a lumbar puncture with a pressure number — those tests themselves are frequently OPD and usually not covered without a rider. The operation, when it is honest, is a different line.

India private-market bands (not ReliveCure quotes):

ItemRangeTypical cover
Neuro-ophthalmic assessment₹2,000–6,000OPD — usually not
MRI brain and orbit₹6,000–20,000Covered when admitted; OPD MRI often not
Lumbar puncture / CSF pressure₹8,000–25,000Covered when admitted
Optic nerve sheath fenestration₹90,000–2,00,000Covered — sight-saving

Exact figure after evaluation. Parent: eye surgery insurance in India. Cashless option also available. May not be as well — depends on the personal case.

Documents that help: fields, disc photos, LP or MRI when done, the words “function / threatened vision,” not “patient desired appearance.”

Call today versus a planned map

Same day: new field cut, both discs swollen, thunderclap headache, or a dilated pupil with diplopia (that last one is the palsy page, not fenestration). Phone +91 96500 23161.

This week: already labelled IIH, fields worse on the last printout, someone said “sheath surgery.” That is an evaluation.

Not this page: a routine glasses visit. A LASIK screen. A single swollen disc that is optic neuritis until proven otherwise.

Where ReliveCure fits

You come in. We look at both discs. We run or repeat fields. When fenestration is the honest next step, we take you through that plan as a clinic, not as a listing. When it is not — weight, medicine, a different diagnosis — we say so. Care in Gurugram, Hyderabad, Pune or Mumbai. We will not promise the field comes back. We will not scare you with a tumour headline to book a slot.

Free eye evaluation. +91 96500 23161.

A window in the optic-nerve covering so local pressure can fall, usually after documented high intracranial pressure and failing fields.
