What a white reflex actually is

In a normal flash picture the choroid lights the pupil red. Something in the visual axis — a white tumour, a white lens, a white scar, dense vitritis — can bounce white instead. One odd selfie is not a diagnosis. Repeated white in the same eye, a missing red reflex with a torch, or a new squint in a child who used to look straight, is.
