Uveitis insurance in India usually pays the injection or the admission when the file shows inflammation that threatens sight — and usually does not pay the blood tests and OCT you did as an outpatient. That split is why families feel cheated: the expensive day-care shot goes through; the workup that proved you needed it does not.

What uveitis insurance actually looks at
Insurers are not reading “red eye.” They are asking: was this inflammation inside the eye, was function at risk, and was the procedure medically necessary?
Function is paid. A discharge note that only says redness invites a query. Visual acuity at presentation, anterior-chamber or vitreous cell grading, and a cause (including TB where that is the India pattern) are what make uveitis insurance look like a medical file instead of a vague OPD visit.
Relapsing disease means more than one claim over years. Each flare is its own event if the notes are complete. Do not assume last year’s approval covers this year’s implant.

The workup is the part people try to reclaim and usually cannot. OCT the morning of the injection is still often billed as OPD even if the injection is day care. That is annoying and typical. We say it before you are surprised.
Injections and implants sit on most modern day-care lists. So does the logic in our day care eye surgery insurance explainer: overnight stay is not the test. Admission is for severe, sight-threatening inflammation — intravenous steroids, infection ruled in or out, pressure watched. That file is inpatient, not a dressed-up day care.
Home tablets that keep a relapsing uveitis quiet are usually pharmacy / OPD. We still write them when the eye needs them. We do not skip treatment because the TPA will not refund a strip of tablets.
The notes that survive a uveitis claim
- Visual acuity in both eyes at presentation
- Grading of the inflammation (cells, flare) — not the word “red”
- OCT if the macula is swollen
- Aetiology: TB tests, autoimmune pointers, trauma, as indicated
- Why this drug (steroid shot vs implant) and why now
If the only paper is “treated for red eye,” uveitis insurance becomes a fight. If the paper shows an inflamed uveal tract and a drop in acuity, it reads as function.
Secondary glaucoma, cataract, or a retinal detachment after uveitis is a separate claim with its own notes. Do not hide a trabeculectomy inside a uveitis day-care bill.
