Ocular Prosthesis Insurance: The Shell After Covered Surgery
Ocular prosthesis insurance in India often follows a covered removal — a custom shell, not a low-vision gadget. ReliveCure plans the socket first. Magnifiers stay on a different file.

Ocular prosthesis insurance is the question after evisceration or enucleation: will mediclaim pay the custom shell? In India a prosthesis after a covered removal is often covered. Magnifiers, telescopes and screen readers are appliances — they usually are not. This URL is the shell. Low vision aids and 80U is the gadget file. Do not mash them.
ReliveCure evaluates the socket in Gurugram, Hyderabad, Pune or Mumbai when it is quiet enough. Call +91 96500 23161. We do not sell a “dummy eye” deal. A child with a white reflex is a same-day exam, not a shopping link.
What a custom prosthesis actually is
A fitted shell that sits in the socket so lids have shape and the face is easier to live with. It is not vision. It is not a low-vision device. It usually waits until swelling has settled and the implant — if one was placed — is quiet.
India private-market band for a custom prosthesis afterwards: about ₹25,000–80,000. Often covered after covered surgery. Not a ReliveCure quote. Exact figure after the ocularist map, not from this article.
Context bands from the same source (still not our rate card): evisceration about ₹40,000–90,000; enucleation + implant about ₹70,000–1,80,000 — typically medical necessity.
What usually pays, and what does not
| Item | Typical cover | What decides it |
|---|---|---|
| Custom prosthesis after covered removal | Often yes | Operative notes + invoice labelled prosthesis |
| Magnifiers, telescopes, readers | No | Optical appliance |
| 80U / disability certificate | Not a TPA line | Schemes and tax — not this shell |
Parent: eye surgery insurance in India. Usually / typically / depends on your policy. Cashless option also available. May not be as well — depends on the personal case. We check papers at evaluation. We do not bind a TPA from a blog.
Documents that help: the covered removal notes, implant if used, ocularist bill that says prosthesis — not “cosmetic dummy,” not “patient desired appearance.”
If the eye was lost to trauma, accident waiting-period rules typically still help the surgery file. The shell is a later, separate line. Do not assume one cashless stamp covers both forever.
Fitting is not a one-visit selfie. The ocularist takes an impression when the socket is quiet, tints the iris to the other eye as honestly as paint allows, and you come back for polish. ReliveCure does not pretend that photograph will match a living eye in every light. Volume from a well-placed implant matters more than a glossy brochure. If the lids cannot close, we fix the socket problem before we chase colour.
Bring the discharge summary. If histopathology was taken, bring that too. A TPA that cannot see why the globe came out will query a shell that looks, to them, like appearance.
Call today versus when the socket is ready
Same day: pain, discharge, a child with leukocoria, a socket that looks infected. Phone +91 96500 23161.
Evaluation: the operation is done, you were sent home, you are asking about the shell and bima.
Not this page: buying a magnifier. Booking LASIK. A seeing eye with a pterygium.
Where ReliveCure fits
You come in when the socket can be looked at. We confirm the surgery file is honest. When a custom prosthesis is the next step, we take you through it as a clinic. We will not promise a photograph match. We will not call gadgets “covered” to make the enquiry nicer. Care in Gurugram, Hyderabad, Pune or Mumbai.
